That’s where we come in! See below some useful words for specific industries, so you can learn the English you can actually use in the real world.

1. AMORTIZABLE (adjective): used to describe a business cost or an asset
⮚ Amortizable business costs include advertising, wages and salaries, and equipments.

2. BURN RATE (noun): the speed at which a company spends the money that is available to it when it begins trading
⮚ It is estimated that the company will last ten years based on the current burn rate.

3. DIVESTMENT (noun): the act of selling off a business or businesses, or of no longer investing money in something
⮚ A campaign to encourage divestment from fossil fuels.

4. BRANDED (adjective): made by a particular company and sold under a particular name
⮚ Most supermarkets sell branded goods such as Heinz ketchup or Kellogg's cornflakes as well as own-brand goods

5. BIZ (noun): a particular type of business
⮚ She is one of the top amateur riders in the biz.

6. BIG BUSINESS (noun): powerful and influential businesses and financial organizations  (= ones with a lot of influence) when considered as a group:
⮚ The party receives most of its financial support from big business.

7. CROWDFUNDING (noun): the practice of getting a large number of people to each give small amounts of money in order to provide the finance for a project, typically using the internet.
Crowdfunding provides locally sourced finance for renewable energy projects around the country.

PAST SIMPLE OF REGULAR VERBS

Past simple – regular verbs Rule 1: If the verb base ends in a voiceless sound, then the –ed ending sounds like “t”.
